The St. Croix-Chequamegon Chapter was named for the low topographical features of the region in which it is located. Chequamegon is an Indian word which means a long, narrow strip of land running onto a body of water, the place of large breakers and soft beaver houses. In our region the strip of land runs into Chequamegon Bay on the south shore of Lake Superior. Our first meeting on October 15, 1976, was opened by the State Regent, Mrs. Dudley W. Pierce, who presented Organizing Regent, Eva Oksa, with a gavel inscribed with the date and name of the Chapter. Due to the increasing shift in the membership, in 2002 the official location of the chapter was changed to Hudson. |
