History Essay Contest Presented
by Governor Nelson Dewey Chapter NSDAR

This
annual essay contest is open to children in grades 5, 6, 7 and
8. Competition is open to children in public and private schools
and to home schooled children. Winners are selected from each
grade at the chapter, state, division, and national levels. At
the national level, each winner is presented with a certificate,
and a monetary award.

The topic for 2006-2007: "Jamestown Colony is Settled".
To help commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, take on the persona of one of the early settlers. Write a letter to your family members who remained in England, and tell them about the activities and hardships involved with helping to establish the settlement." More

Winners for the 2005-2006: Waunakee Intermediate School, grade 5; BlackHawk Middle School, Grade 8.
DAR Good Citizens Contest
The purpose of the DAR Good Citizens Committee is to recognize and reward senior high school students who exemplify the qualities of a good citizen: dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. This program is open to senior class students enrolled in accredited public or private secondary schools that are in good standing with their State Boards of Education. United States citizenship is not required.
The schools entering the 2005-2006 contest were DeForest Area HS, Little Wolf HS, Marion HS, New London HS, Stoughton HS, Verona Area HS, and Weyauwega-Fremont HS. Our chapter winner was from the DeForest Area HS.
