In January, 1913, Mrs. Charles Eckel was appointed Organizing Regent by Mrs. Julia Scott, then President General, DAR. On February 21, 1914, the Port Washington Chapter DAR was formally organized with thirteen members.

The chapter was named for the city in which it was organized because, as the minutes say, "suitable name was discussed, and Port Washington was decided upon as best."
