DAR HISTORY

  • The DAR is a national society founded by women for historical, educational and patriotic purposes.

  • About a hundred years after our country was established, there was an increase in patriotism and a desire to honor the men and women who sacrificed to enable our country freedom and independence, and to perpetuate the freedoms for which our ancestors fought.
  • Preliminary work was done during the summer of 1890, and on October 11 of that year the NSDAR was a reality.
  • The original application papers for the founders of DAR are on display on the walls of Constitution Hall, DAR headquarters in Washington, DC.
